Ruth Orkin signed orig New York Central Park Lavender Mist and the Plaza Area

  

Here is a 9x13" image by photographer Ruth Orkin, matted in ivory with "Lavender Mist and the Plaza (Hotel) Area, 1970s" and "Ruth Orkin 1978" in pencil by her own hand, in a silvertone gallery frame that measures 16.25x20.25". Some of the photography in the show had, like this image, appeared in Orkin's 1978 book A WORLD THROUGH MY WINDOW: Photographs by Ruth Orkin with text assembled by Arno Karlen. The New York Times wrote of that book, Shooting for 25 years from the window of her apartment overlooking Central Park...

[Orkin] has come up with a remarkable collection of color photographs depicting the many faces of the park in all seasons and at all hours. " In the book, this image is on Page 13 with the shorter title "Lavender Haze. This print appears to have faded some, or else was processed differently from what appears in the book, but Orkin's signature is there, and to our eyes the misty haze across Central Park towards the Plaza, all pale lavenders and yellows, is wonderfully atmospheric. And not a single 21st century skyscraper in sight! Light scuffs to the frame. The next owners could certainly reframe the image and signed matt if they like. Like all good sellers I encourage you to read the descriptions provided and examine the photography with care, not in haste. The photos are of my item, the very one listed here. Whether vintage collectibles or brand new goods, most items could never come back in the same condition they left once others have handled them. I don't obtain items from manufacturers directly or through a shadowy "gray market, " and my sources are usually the original retailer, another collector, or a reliable secondhand marketplace. My descriptions make clear if an item is brand new (store-shelf quality) or has been used by its original owner (who is often me).
