The Broadway Limited N Scale USRA 2-8-2 Mikado represents one of the most successful steam locomotive designs in American railroading history. This is BLI's third production of the USRA Light and Heavy 2-8-2 designs in N scale. There were 233 original USRA Heavy 2-8-2s built plus another 957 copies, covering 23 railroads, making it an extremely successful design. The USRA Heavy Mikados used the same running gear as the Light Mikados, but featured boilers 10 inches larger in diameter and larger cylinders, producing approximately 10 percent higher tractive effort.

The USRA Light Mikados were equally prolific, with 625 units built by the USRA and 641 copies built after the USRA ended control. With copies included, over 50 railroads operated the USRA Light 2-8-2s across North America.

Broadway Limited's models follow the original designs closely, with railroad-specific variations not modeled on these locomotives.
